Shia LaBeouf is listed one of Metro Mix’s ‘15 Breakout Actors of 2000s’.

One of the great pleasures of the movies is discovering an exciting new actor. Those performers that thrill and impress with their talent, looks, relatability and star power.

The following 15 actors made their marks in the past decade, making good on breakout roles with equally impressive bodies of work. They’re the actors we’re most excited to follow into the next decade, when we know they’ll be joined by a whole new crop of breakout stars.

Before this decade, it would’ve been hard to believe any actor could become a full-fledged movie star by playing opposite giant CGI robots, but LaBeouf stood out from the noise and spectacle of “Transformers” against all odds. With his cheeky, self-deprecating wit, motor-mouthed energy, and unconventional, slightly nerdy good looks, LaBeouf is like an ‘80s-era John Cusack with even greater charisma and a whole lot of Red Bull.

LaBeouf initially impressed as a winning teen actor in films like “Holes,” before maturing into a confident, twentysomething leading man. In projects like the gritty coming-of-age tale “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” he’s proven he has acting chops to go along with star presence, which can’t be said for every young actor who achieved celebrity in the past 10 years (sorry, Orlando Bloom).

Like New York’s financial landscape, Gordon Gekko has changed dramatically in the 20 years since his pro-greed diatribe resonated across the trading floors. Annie Leibovitz photographs the stars of Oliver Stone’s sequel, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, while the author finds Michael Douglas playing coy about his character’s true game. Can it be? Can it really be more than 20 years since Gordon Gekko ruled Wall Street, since greed was good, since Oliver Stone and his camera first ventured deep into the canyons of Lower Manhattan? Today, with the markets still recovering from their recent free fall and financial titans doing pratfalls on the national stage, the news that Stone has returned to film a sequel can summon up only one reaction: Gordon Gekko is back. Of course.

But wait. For Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, due in theaters later this year, we are asked to believe that, in a return to one of his greatest roles, the silver-maned Michael Douglas will play Gekko, fresh from a 20-year prison sentence, as—no, it can’t be!—a good guy? “When Gekko comes out of prison, in the beginning of this movie, he essentially has to redefine himself,” says Stone. “He’s looking for that second chance.”
He gets it in a plot that pivots around Shia LaBeouf as Jacob “Jake” Moore, a hungry young hedge-funder who is dating Gekko’s estranged daughter, Winnie, played by Carey Mulligan. Jake believes that his boss, Bretton James, played by the omnipresent Josh Brolin, has somehow had a hand in the death of Jake’s mentor. Gekko agrees to aid the fresh-faced Jake in his plans for revenge.
Yes, the world has changed, but can Gordon Gekko? Douglas, for one, is playing things coy. “Gekko couldn’t manipulate the markets like he did back then,” he says. “It’s so big, so huge, that to be a minor player you need to be a major bank.” Or want to be. Hmm.

Johnny Depp may be the “Sexiest Man Alive,” but Robert Pattinson is the most sought-after. Hunky “Twilight” franchise vampire Robert Pattinson was at the top of the list, ending the five-year domination by Johnny Depp. R-Patz was joined by on-screen lady love Kristen Stewart at No. 2. Who else made the list?

“Twilight: New Moon” stars dominated the Top 25, representing almost 25% of the list. In fact, “Twilight” stars made-up 40% of the Top 10 with Robert Pattinson (No. 1), Kristen Stewart (No. 2), Taylor Lautner (No. 5) and Dakota Fanning (No. 8).
